So, dahlings, it is the end; at least the end of this school year.  So I have one final column with which to barrage you with my advice.  I hope you’ve enjoyed it and gotten something useful out of my meanderings.

The final issue I’d like to discuss with you?  How to enjoy the culture of Pensacola while on a tiny budget.  In previous issues, I’ve mentioned both the Pensacola Museum of Art and the Lyceum series presented at the Ashmore Auditorium.  They are both excellent ideas!  As I sat here writing this column, I was looking up events at the art museum; next thing you know I was talking loudly to a co-worker about how I don’t understand why people don’t go there!  And I don’t.  Currently, they are exhibiting prints from the “Graphicstudio” project that are on loan from the Ringling Museum in Sarasota.  Next, there will be works by Norman Rockwell and, of course, the AMAZING Annie Leibovitz’s “Women” series.  YOU MUST SEE HER PHOTOS; THEY ARE AMAZING.  The Ashmore has some great stuff, as well.  And, the Ashmore is free to students; the Pensacola Museum of Art is $2 for students, except on Tuesday, when it, too, is free!

If you’re looking for culture of a different kind, Sluggo’s and End of the Line Caf‚ both host musical artists of varying genres nearly constantly.  And door prices are far from expensive; usually, it’s around $5.  Plus, they both serve great food.  End of the Line also hosts weekly poetry readings at which you can get up and read your stuff to a receptive audience.

Beyond that, create your own culture, guys!  If you know some people who do artwork, host an art show in your house; if you know people who like to play music, host a show; if you know people who write, get together and talk about your writing.  It’s all free!  Make art!  Live!  It’s the freest thing out there.  That’s the final advice I leave you with.
