PJC is accepting applications from students to serve as official college ambassadors next year. Everyone who applies must fill out an application, submit an essay and have a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member. Possible candidates are selected for an interview.

Once a student is chosen as an ambassador, he or she must go through training that includes spending a day at every campus and meeting the administrators and faculty members at each campus.

Training to enhance leadership ability, increase interpersonal communication skills and strengthen public speaking is also part of the ambassadorship.

The ambassadors represent PJC at various events on and off campus including College Night, Honors Night, graduation, campus tours, registration and high school recruiting visits. The goal of the program is to enhance college recruitment and retention by providing students with a select team of peers that represent PJC.

Student ambassadors must commit to a one-year term and serve 80 hours per semester. A $1000 stipend, payable at $500 a semester, is given to each ambassador. Ambassadors are also given a PJC blazer and polo shirt. Students receiving other stipends from PJC organizations are not eligible to be an ambassador during the same term.

Applications are available in the Student Leadership and Activities offices and counseling offices on all three campuses.

Applications can be downloaded at www.pjc.ccfl.us/curstudents/ambassador.asp.

The deadline to submit applications is April 23.
