PJC students and faculty now can access the student newspaper, the Corsair online.  Campus news, sports, features and the Scallywag from the current issue can be viewed via the Web site www.eCorsair.com.

“We expect that our online presence will be everything that the Corsair is and so much more,” editor Jim Ellis said.

The move to an online version will mean more opportunities for journalism students, Corsair adviser Christina Drain said.

Through College Publisher, the designer of the Web site, eCorsair.com articles can be syndicated to hundreds of other college newspapers and Web sites.

In addition, photography students will be able to display college-related work on the site through photo galleries.

Back issues of the Corsair will be added as time permits.  The staff eventually would like to include a few articles from every year back to the 1950s, when the Corsair began.

One exciting new feature, Ellis said, is a message board that will enable students, faculty and administrators to communicate using an open forum.  Users first choose a username and password, then can obtain access to the feature.

Users can choose to comment on a message or start a new topic thread.

“We can also place a comment box at the end of an article for opportunity for feedback on that story,” Ellis said.  “Readers can also send a letter to the editor using the template on the Web site.”

Another feature on the site is a college-wide calendar of events.  Sports, Lyceum events coffeehouse lecture series, student and intramural events can be found on the calendar. Student groups can add their own events by contacting Drain at corsair@pjc.edu for access.
