Gerald McKenzie, an attorney at the law firm of McKenzie & Allen, has been elected chairman of the Pensacola Junior College district board of trustees for the 2004-2005 school year.

McKenzie replaces Carol Carlan, who served as the PJC board chairwoman for two years. Dona Usry, a homemaker and community volunteer, has been elected vice chairwoman of the board.

McKenzie is the 2003-2004 legal counsel for the Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce. He formerly served on the University of West Florida Minority Affairs Committee and also was on the committee that selected Fort Myers as the site for Florida Gulf Coast University.

Usry serves on the boards of Panhandle Tiger Bay, Salvation Army, WSRE Foundation, and is fundraising chairwoman of Women’s Board of Baptist Health Care Foundation.

Both McKenzie and Usry were appointed to the board by Gov. Jeb Bush in 1999. McKenzie served as vice chairman of the board from July 2002 to July 2004.

PJC President Tom Delaino commended Carlan for her leadership and service to the college and said that he looks forward to working with the board’s new leaders.

“As board members,  (McKenzie and Usry) are always visible at college events and routinely represent the college at functions of the Florida Association of Community Colleges and the American Association of Community Colleges. They are committed to PJC and our service to this community, and we look forward to a successful year under their ardent leadership,” Delaino said.
