A suspect is in custody after a report of an attempted rape at PJC’s Pensacola Campus today.

At about 1 p.m., Dr. James Martin received a call from the PJC Police Department informing him of an attempted rape on campus. The alleged crime occurred in building 1 in the women’s restroom.

As Martin was sending alerts to campus employees and students at about 1:20 p.m., he looked out his window in building 6 and noticed a man who fit the description of the alleged assailant. Martin pursued the man on foot after telling his assistant Samantha Munoz to call campus police. Campus police officer Christopher Phillips gave chase around building 2 and apprehended the suspect in the parking lot of building 2. Several Pensacola Police officers and campus police also responded.

From the initial report from Martin, the 18-year-old woman was in a stall, while the suspect, described as a black male with cornrows and a white T-shirt, was in a neighboring stall. The suspect crawled under the partition and assaulted the victim.

The victim was taken to a local hospital but the extent of the injuries is not known.
