The burden of rebuilding after a hurricane always has a high price tag. This is no exception for victims of Hurricane Charley in Central and South Florida. As Charley cut his path of destruction through Central and South Florida in mid-August, employees at other state community colleges, including Edison, Seminole, Valencia and South Florida Community Colleges, have not only suffered severe damages to their campuses, but employees have lost or endured significant damage to their homes and personal properties, according to Dr. Harry Albertson, of the Florida Association of Community Colleges.
According to Albertson, each of these colleges’ Foundations have set up a special account to accept contributions to help their employees.
“As we live in a hurricane area and are well aware of the devastation one feels at a time like this,” Sylvia Campbell, PJC’s FACC chapter president, said. “We also know the tremendous burden of rebuilding.”
“PJC’s FACC chapter wants each employee of PJC to have the opportunity to help the victims of Hurricane Charley,” Campbell said.
The chapter will be accepting monetary donations to help the employees at each of these colleges.
The money collected will be divided evenly between the four colleges.
There are almost 8,000 members of the FACC state-wide and more than 300 at PJC, Campbell said.
Contributions should be sent to one of the following people by, Aug. 23: Sylvia Campbell, building 2; Carol Quinn, building 7; Brandi Opager, building 7; and Sheran Noles, building 7 on the Pensacola campus.
On the Milton Campus: Dawn Loyed, Provost Office.
On the Warrington Campus: Lisa Williams, Provost Office
Funds received after Monday, Aug. 23 will be sent to the colleges at a later date.
