The Lady Pirates defeat #1 ranked team Miami-Dade in 4 sets winning 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, and 25-23 in the Florida State Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. on Oct. 14.
“That’s a really big deal obviously because we wanted to beat them and before we could never get a set off of them,” Head Coach Chris Laird said.
Miami-Dade is the second largest JUCO team in the state.
“They have everything you need,” Laird said. “They have 3 international players, 3 out of state waivers, and are well coached. They’ve been good for so long so it’s a big big significant historic win for us.”
The Lady Pirates had a total of 80 digs in 4 sets averaging 20 digs per set.
“Against a team like that is remarkable,” Laird said.
Karson Hinds had 46 assists which is almost 12 assists per set.
“Anytime you can get that type of numbers against such a great team is pretty remarkable,” Laird said. “We played probably our best, it was so nice to see our girls play the way they know they could and the way they’re suppose to.”
