Naked

Travis DeSimone.

Corsair.

The Mike Leigh film Naked really struck a chord in me. Johnny flees Manchester for London after he rapes a young woman. Upon arriving in London he wanders around meeting strangers and talking with them. These scenes are more like vehicles for the film makers to question religion, and philosophy. Johnny is a fatalist and a nihilist. He is not a good guy either. His interactions with other people are predatory and sociopathic. Despite his nature he is still a character we can empathize with. Yes, Johnny is flawed, but he is still human.

Naked won best international film an Cinefest in 1993, Best Director and actor at Cannes in 1993, and many other esteemed awards. This film contains some subject matter that may disturb the weak of spirit. A truly black comedy in which you are forced to empathize with a sadist.
