The men’s team is off to a disappointing start in their conference schedule. After falling just short to Okaloosa Walton at home due to a questionable call by the officiating crew, the Pirates had to turn right around and play conference rival Gulf Coast on the road. They lost 75-64.
PJC (12-6, 0-2) trailed most of the game. Similar to the game against Okaloosa Walton, PJC let Gulf Coast jump out to a 15-2 lead. The Pirates were able to cut the lead to four by halftime.
The second half started just the same way, however, and Gulf Coast led by 18 with just under eight minutes remaining. PJC tried to narrow the margin but only at best managed to pull within eight points with 3:30 remaining.
Head coach Paul Swanson said that Gulf Coast was just too physical and that his team didn’t make big plays when they need to.
Lasha Parghalava had a team high 12 points followed by Miles Taylor and Eugene Blue who each had 11. Petras Balocka led the team in rebounds with 15.
PJC will play at Tallahassee on Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. EST
