On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, nearly 100 PSC students, employees and community members filled the Lou Rous Gym for a health fair on the Pensacola Campus, to receive health information and various free screenings.

Booths from different organizations offered information on weight loss, stroke prevention, height and BMI, healthcare services, and healthy eating.

Faye Ellis, the Captain of the North West Florida Take Off Pounds Sensibly branch, described the mission of her group as teaching people to exercise, cook right, and eat with moderation.

“I talked to lots of people, and was very pleased with the turnout,” she commented.

Other booths offered screenings and tests for cholesterol, weight, hearing, bone density, and blood pressure.

Lorrita Carter, the Coordinator of Employee Wellness and of the PensacolaCampusLIFEFitnessCenter, described the purpose of the fair as “…The awareness of health. We wanted to get the community involved, and those who don’t have access to health insurance. All the screenings were free. They helped make people more aware of health, which cuts down on risk of strokes and diabetes.”
