This Thursday, April 11, 2013, Pensacola State College Library is presenting a workshop and poetry reading by Kim Addonizio, a “super edgy, really contemporary poet,” according to Mike Will, an English professor at PSC.
For students who think they aren’t into poetry, Will has something to say.
“When people say ‘I hate poetry’ or ‘I don’t like poetry,’ I say I know you like it, you just haven’t read her,” Will said.
Addonizio’s reading at 7:30 in the Ashmore Auditorium is preceded by a workshop with her at 1:30 on the second floor of the library.
The workshop focuses on revision, and Addonizio will show how she goes from a first draft to the final draft of her poems.
“Anyone that wants to write at all, in any context, it would be worth going to,” Will said of the workshop.
Although her books will not be on sale, there is a reception at 5:30, also in the library, where she can sign things for students.
The events are free to PSC students who have their identification card, and tickets can be picked up at the Lyceum box office. Faculty and staff tickets are $5, and community tickets are $8.
