Former Corsair sports editor Brian Nephi McLellan, 20, was sentenced Oct. 5 to nearly a year in jail and sexual offender status stemming from an arrest last July on eight counts of third degree felony with “possession of [a] photograph of [a] sexual performance by a child.”
McLellan originally pleaded not guilty in October 2005, and then changed his plea to no contest Aug. 9, 2006.
He was classified as a youthful offender and sentenced to 11 months, 15 days in the Escambia County Jail, followed by two years of probation, according to Escambia County Clerk of the Court public records.
McLellan also is required to complete a sex offender program.
The charges came after Corsair Adviser Christina Drain found apparent child pornography in one of the office computer recycling bins on July 21, 2005.
After last week’s sentencing, McLellan was contacted by email but declined to comment.
There has been at least one other instance of child pornography on campus according to PJC Police Sgt. Peggy Anderson.
