Sophomore shooting guard Victoria Hunt returned to her hometown of Summit, Miss. on Monday as the PJC Lady Pirates defeated Mississippi Delta Community College 69-60.

After starting out slow in the first half, Hunt had an explosive second half and finished the game with 15 points.

Coach Chanda Rigby said her team was much more focused after a shaky first game against Andrew College. Rigby said the Lady Pirates settled down early and executed well on offense and looked like a more mature team. PJC out-rebounded Mississippi Delta and committed less turnovers, which proved to be pivotal in a tight game.

Sophomore Brittanie Alston helped seal the game for PJC as she made a lay-up and added a free throw after being fouled on the play.

Freshman guard Channa Willis, along with freshman Sierra Highgate, filled in for injured all-conference point guard Kristian Diggs, and led all scorers with 16 points for the second consecutive game.

Coach Rigby reported that Willis has a case of swollen tonsils and is questionable for tomorrow’s game against Northwest Mississippi Community College, also being played in Summit, Miss.

Sophomore Guard/Forward Joleah Pierce suffered a dislocated kneecap during Monday’s game. The coaching staff is not sure as to how long she will be inactive.
