The women’s basketball team swept the Lady Pirates Classic Tournament with a win over Alabama Southern Community College on Saturday, 70-51.
The Lady Pirates stole the lead from the Lady Eagles thanks to successful free throws very early in the first half. They managed to hold that lead for the remainder of the game.
The 36-foul game was full of mistakes on both sides from double dribbling to traveling.
Gerica Johnson led the scoring with 17 points and was named MVP for the tournament. Victoria Hunt managed 9 points including a 3-point shot. Jessica Young also got 9 points and was selected for the all tournament team.
“I see improvement every game,” said Head Coach Chanda Rigby. “Our practices are rushed [at the Bo Johnson Center], so getting back to the Lou Ross Center will definitely help us more.”
