The Pirates softball team will travel to the Florida state tournament for the seventh year after assuring a berth with a win tonight against Gulf Coast Community college.
It took two games to seal the deal though. The Pirates lost the first game 2-0. Pitcher Amanda Leggett only gave up two hits, but both hits resulted in runs when Gulf Coast’s Natalie Vogler’s home run brought in Saskia Kosterink.
In the second game, PJC won 4-1, with hot bats in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Sophia Gill knocked in Jessica Woodring with a line drive past first base. Alicia Burnett scored as Leggett walked and Allison Burch doubled to centerfield to allow Cassie Godwin and Gill to score.
Gulf Coast loaded the bases in the third but were only able to bring one home.
The Pirates (25-16, 9-11) finish regular season play with home non-conference games Wednesday against Meridian Community College and Thursday against Jefferson Davis Community College.
