The PJC Lady Pirate basketball team took on the #2 Junior College team in the nation in Gulf Coast CC pushing them to overtime but eventually losing 80-77
Ida Edwards had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ronke Allen had 15 points and Shontel Johnson added 12 points as the Lady Pirates pursued the missed upset.
The Lady Pirates led at halftime 39-36 but the Lady Commodores opened up a big lead in the second half. PJC showed great resiliency cutting the double digit lead to tie the game and force overtime.
“We played really well tonight, pushing the #2 team in the nation to overtime and losing by three,” Coach Chanda Rigby said. “Our defensive scheme was very even. We executed our game plan very well.”
The tough loss drops PJC to 1-7 in conference play. They will take a break from conference play on Friday and Saturday taking on North Florida at the Lou Ross Center. Game times are 5:30pm on Friday and 2:00pm on Saturday.
