SEAN BLACKWELL – The Corsair
November 24, 2010
Pensacola State College’s women’s basketball team are ranked third in NJCAA national ranking. In the pre-season poll they were ranked No. 14. This jump comes as no surprise for Head Coach Chanda Rigby.
“We are humbled by it, but still in all we will not be satisfied until we are in the No. 1 slot,” Rigby said.
The offense of the Lady Pirates is a major reason why they are so successful, averaging more than 100 points a game prior to their last game.
“We are very strong offensively but the real test will come on a night we are not shooting real well,” Rigby said.
Keeping the ladies focused on defense, particularly rebounding, will be the key to achieving the goal of number one according to Rigby.
Great recruiting and dedication of the assistant coaches is recipe of the women’s success, according to Rigby.
“Not only do we recruit really good shooters, but they’ve gotten better since they have gotten here thanks to the work of my assistant coaches,” Rigby said.
The Lady Pirates first home game of the season is Nov. 23 against Bishop State.
