The PJC baseball team made a strong, but failed, attempt to overcome UWF with a 5-2 loss, Wed., Oct. 18.

With a less than average crowd and sporadic weather conditions, the Pirates were unable to surmount the Argos’ early lead.  All five of UWF’s points came in the first inning.  After pitcher Miguel Mejia allowed four runs halfway through the first inning, Pirates switched pitchers.  Austin Garrett, a sophomore from Nashville, Tenn., stepped in and finished out the game, only allowing one run for the remainder of the game.

PJC finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when D’Marcus Ingram, freshman from Little Rock, Ark., steadily stole second, third, and home bases.   Their second and last point came in the bottom of the ninth.  Freshman John Rickenbacker successfully crossed home plate thanks to a hit by local freshman Brandon Brown.
