The PJC women’s basketball team have yet to win a game by more than 13 points but are still 3-0. The Lady Pirates defeated Northwest Mississippi Community College on the road Tuesday by a score of 72-62.
PJC jumped out to a 45-25 halftime lead but Northwest Mississippi made it close in the second half, pulling to within four points late in the game. PJC was able to pull away at the end and get the 10-point victory.
Four players scored in double figures for PJC. Sophomore forward Dominique Sutton had a big game off the bench by scoring 21 points. Freshman guard Channa Willis had 12 points, scoring in double figures for the third consecutive game. Sophomore guard Victoria Hunt, playing in front of her hometown for the second straight day after playing Mississippi Delta Community College on Monday, scored 12 points and sophomore Forward Latoya Thomas scored 11 points. Freshman forward Kenyatta Gill led the team in rebounding with 8.
PJC head coach Chanda Rigby said her team executed very well and showed a lot of maturity, especially when Northwest Mississppi was attempting a comeback.
Sophomore Point Guard Kristian Diggs, who has been inactive so far this season due to an ankle injury, has been listed as questionable for the Chipola Alzheimer’s Classic this weekend in Marianna, Fla. PJC will play Georgia Perimeter College on Friday and Three Rivers Community College on Saturday. Both games will be played at 2:00.
