Fatigue was a factor as the PJC women’s basketball team lost their first game of the season to Three Rivers Community College, 71-70, in the Chipola Alzheimer’s Classic.
“Our legs were tired,” said head coach Chanda Rigby. “We looked a step slow out there.”
PJC trailed throughout the entire game. Down by 13 with less than two minutes to play, PJC attempted a late comeback by using their full-court press defense to force turnovers and nearly tied the game.
Sophomore guard Victoria Hunt, who had been having a quiet season until Saturday’s game, scored 32 points. Keynatta Gill also scored in double figures for PJC with 10 points.
PJC will have nearly a week to rest before playing their first home game of the season, which will be against Andrew College, a team they beat nine days ago. The game will be on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Lou Ross Center.
