In celebration of the Summer Solstice, the Pensacola State College Planetarium and Space Theatre, along with The University of West Florida Archaeology Institute, will present a free event on ancient perspectives of the night sky called “A Journey Along the Pathway of Souls” at 6 and 8 p.m. on June 20 in the PSC Planetarium, Building 21.
The event highlights ancient Native American constellations, and presenter Cindy Sommerkamp, UWF archaeologist, will also show the path of the Milky Way throughout the year.
Focusing on a view of the night sky prior to European settlement, this event is part of the Viva Florida 500 commemoration honoring explorer Ponce de Leon’s 1513 arrival in Florida.
The presentation will also take place during the Fall Equinox on September 19.
