The trilogy has been hacking its way through the box office since the first film was released. The lip biting, face turning, eye shutting debut of “Saw III” opened in theaters on Oct. 27, with profits exceeding $33.6 million during its opening weekend.
To “Saw” fans, it will be a great fantasy of acid burning, ankle cracking, pig guts galore, skull severing and broken dreams that are accompanied by the oh-so-creepy Jigsaw Puppet.
The tale of playing nasty games with people by threatening their lives to make them understand their undeniable faults becomes a bit more sympathetic in this third installment of the “Saw” saga. On his deathbed, Jigsaw, the mastermind, brings his new apprentice, Amanda, to light in this series by allowing her to test a heartbroken man’s anger and confusion with his foes. Jigsaw makes it a point that everyone should be tested malevolently, even his very own precious Amanda. But when she fails, it leads to a mind blowing experience.
But for some, the “Saw” franchise might be coming to a repetitive end.
With the same recurring pattern of mutilating several felons’ waking souls in a dirty abandoned warehouse, it seems that Jigsaw might be running out of ideas to entertain his audience. There are frequent flash backs of the earlier flicks portrayed from the very first scene and are consistent through the very last.
Time can only tell if Jigsaw has the power to immortalize himself.
