The PJC volleyball team was eliminated in the second game of the state tournament with a loss to St. Petersburg College on Friday, November 3, (30-26, 30-18, and 30-13), ending the season.
The Lady Pirates started strong, but the lead slowly slipped from them in all three games. Mistakes by PJC and spectacular plays by St. Petersburg gave SPC the victory.
“The competitor in all of us has us disappointed,” said head coach Pete Pena, “but there isn’t anything to be disappointed about. We’re not going to let the games like this ruin the whole season.”
The team set many records at PJC, including being the first team to go 5-0 against Gulf Coast Community College and the most wins in a single season.
“It’s sad to say goodbye,” said sophomore Heather Riley, “but all good things must come to an end.”
