Auditions are open to the community for the Pensacola Junior College production of “South Pacific.” The musical is part of the college’s Lyceum 2006-2007 series.
Auditions are 7 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19, at the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus. About 60 performers of various ages are needed for the cast of actors, singers and dancers; auditions are open to adults and children.
Singers must prepare a song with sheet music or tape/CD accompaniment. No acappella. Participants unable to prepare a song will be asked to sing a simple song with an accompanist.
The dance segment follows with a choreographer teaching a simple combination, which will be performed in small groups. Bring appropriate dance attire.
“South Pacific” is set in an island paradise during World War II, with two parallel love stories unfolding. Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and refuses Emile’s proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself love and a future with an innocent island girl.
The score includes Rodgers & Hammerstein classics “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Hai” and “I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair.”
