Shauna Cook The Corsair The Lady Pirates got their first time win against Hillsborough Community College Oct.15 in the Florida State Tournament in a 5 set match 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, and 15-10.
“It was a first time for me and a first time for the program to beat them,” Head Coach Chris Laird said. ” It was another momentous occasion for us.”
Megan Gorey shined in this match with a 382 and 17 kills. The biggest part was Shantel Federick, Libero, with 32 digs.
“That’s really good and you can see that in her,” Laird said. “She’s a great player and if you give her opportunities to get digs, she will.”
In 5 matches with 2 teams, Shantel got 25 digs and 32 digs.
“That shows you she knows what she’s doing,” Laird said.
Karson Hinds again had 50 assists which averaged 10 assists per set.
“We’re doing the right things by being in the right spots,” Laird said.
The Lady Pirates were on a mission and succeed.
