African American Film Festival

The festival will be held Feb. 25-27 in honor of renowned actor Ozzie Davis. The even is sponsored by the African-American Heritage Society and the the Pensacola Bay International Film Festival.

Roy Ayers

Pensacola Junior College presents jazz icon Roy Ayers along with his band Ubiquity and legendary jazz saxophonist Bill Saxton 8 p.m. Friday Jan. 27, at the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus.

The concert kicks off PJC’s observation of Black History Month and celebrates the 15th anniversary of “Aware,” a locally produced show hosted by media personality Dee Dee Sharp. “Aware” airs on WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast.

The concert is free, but reservations are required due to limited seating.

With 40-plus years in the music industry, Ayers has recorded more than 60 albums/CDs since the early 1960s.

Always the consummate showman, Ayers has managed to incorporate his jazz virtuosity with driving funk, melodic rhythms and stirring vocals into an amalgam that almost defies its description as “smooth jazz.”
