Pensacola State College’s Lady Pirates faced Tallahassee Community College on Saturday Jan. 19 at the Lou Ross Center for their fourth conference game of the season.

Both teams came into the game without a conference win and both teams were looking for their first victory. PSC started the game with great focus, taking the lead, 8-4 in the opening minutes.

TCC’s Aiyannah Peal struck the first foul of the night on PSC’s  Teadra Jones, who took two free throws, making them both.

“I go hard in practice and constantly shoot from the free throw line in and out of practice,” Jones said after making eleven free throws Saturday night.

The first half ended with a score of 28-28, making it anyone’s game. PSC came out of the locker room ready to clench their first conference game after halftime.

Jones experienced another foul and sunk two more free throws, making the score even again at 33-33. PSC began to falter halfway through the second half, going down by eleven points with 10:49 left in the game.

As the clock ticked down, TCC kept the lead and took home their first conference win, beating the Lady Pirates 72-58.

“We need to start focusing on ourselves,” a frustrated Coach Leah Drury pointed out after the loss. “It’s not what other teams are doing so much better than we are, it’s what we are not doing that is affecting us negatively. “

The Lady Pirates return to the home court Jan. 30 to play the number one conference team North West Florida State College.
