Shauna Cook The Corsair The Lady Pirates lost to Illinois Central College on Oct.14 in a 5 set match 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 26-24, and 10-15.
“The biggest let down was that we did lose that match,” Head Coach Chris Laird said. “It was unfortunate, but on the flip side we just got done beating the #1 ranked team which was an emotional and physical victory.”
The Lady Pirates had no time to rest up before playing Illinois Central who won the Division 2 championship 2 years ago.
“It’s a strong testament to the girls’ desire and willingness to push,” Laird said. “We had the opportunities to win but didn’t know if we had the gas to do it, we were just shot.”
Megan Gorey really took control of the match with 24 kills. She had the most attempts and she hit a 400. Sarah Guidry and Shantel Federick each gained 25 digs each.

Karson Hinds did it big with 54 assists.
“Karson again did a great job,” Laird said.
