Want to party retro style? The PJC Foundation is throwing an alumni and friends celebration party to commemorate past alumni, and to bring together current students with past students. It’s from 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the Lou Ross gymnasium on the Pensacola campus.

The celebration party, two years in the planning, because Hurricane Ivan pre-empted last year’s event, will have retro music performed by the “Reunion band” with 60s hits such as, “Gimme Some Lovin’, Mustang Sally,” and “My Girl.” The band boasts, “If you can’t dance to it, we don’t play it!”

The PJC Foundation has planned plenty of entertainment for all to enjoy. There will be an ongoing slideshow of pictures from all the graduating years, plus the student attendees and the past and present pictures of the school’s campuses. The scent of grilled hamburgers and hotdogs takes over the senses, and door prizes will be literally “walking the plank” right out of the pirates’ treasure chest. Prizes include free restaurant meals, beach vacations, free PJC classes, and much more.

The Lou Ross gymnasium will be transformed into a “groovy” retro club with old time records decorating each table. The foundation also plans to have memorabilia and yearbooks for all who attend to gaze at. The sets have been built by theatre departments, Bob Gandrup, and organized by Kenda Hilleke.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase bricks that permanently will be embedded around the bell tower. Bricks can be purchased for $50, or a larger golden circle brick can be purchased for $500. The brick sales add to PJCs’ annual fund that covers critical needs that tuition fees and state appropriations do not cover.

The celebration party will be a free event for all who are interested. Students are encouraged to come to what should be a very memorable night.
