The PJC baseball team has scored 10 or more runs in each of the four games they’ve played and won so far this season. After scoring 10 runs in game one of a two game series against Baton Rouge Community College, PJC won game two on Saturday 19-1.

It was an offensive clinic. Every player in the starting line-up had at least one hit. Baton Rouge went through five different pitchers in just six innings. PJC had a total of nine extra base hits. After hitting five of them in Friday’s game, the only type of hit PJC didn’t have was a home run. Head coach Bill Hamilton said that was because the wind was blowing towards home plate.

“The wind changed,” said Hamilton, “usually when that happens you have to play small ball.”

PJC drew first blood in the first inning with two runs and followed with a five-run second inning in which Baton Rouge made three errors. The rout began in the fourth inning as PJC added four more runs and then pulled away with an eight-run fifth inning, where PJC had five straight extra base hits.

Bear Comer scored three runs and went 2-3 with two doubles. Robert Beary scored three runs and recorded two RBI’s and was a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle. Ryan Ditthardt also scored three runs and had a double and two RBI’s. Matt Talierico also scored three runs and had a triple and two RBI’s. Todrick Stevenson had an inside-the- park home run and four RBI’s.

On the mound for PJC was Chris Sorce who gave his team momentum after working his way out of a third inning jam. Baton Rouge had the bases loaded with just one out but managed to get out of the inning with just one run allowed.

“I thought Sorce did a good job,” said Hamilton. “He’s very competitive and he doesn’t panic.”

PJC will travel to New Orleans, La. to play a four-game series against Delgado Community College beginning Feb. 7.
