On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Milton campus was packed with melodious sounds and concertgoers for the Gulf Coast Bluegrass Music Association’s Fall Bluegrass Day.  The show was hosted by the association and the PJC Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society.

People of all ages attended to enjoy the tunes of Sawgrass Revival, Southern Sounds, Whistlestop, New River, Dog River Boys, and Grassfire.

Dale Whitcomb, concertgoer and musician said, “It’s a nice day.  Lot’s of good people.”

People lounging in lawn chairs were graced with a cool breeze while they enjoyed the show.

But the Fall Bluegrass Day was not just an opportunity to hear music and relax; it was also an opportunity to help the community.

Profit from ticket sales and concessions went towards the Ronald McDonald fund and also aided the PJC Alpha Beta Gamma honor students in achieving their goals.

“We donate 10 percent [of the profit] to the Ronald McDonald fund,” said Ray Carroll of Alpha Beta Gamma.  “The rest of the profit sends [club] students to an international business conference.”

The organization members proved to be very active during the festivities doing their part to participate in the event and help where needed.

Logan Fink, an honorary member of Alpha Beta Gamma, a board member of the association, and an environmental science instructor, helped organize and set up the show. Fink’s responsibilities included helping supply food for the concessions and securing the stage.  His wife, Sharon Fink, showed her support by organizing the Fall Bluegrass Day program leaflet.

Other members also contributed to concessions and made the day flow smoothly.

Lydia Bulkom, Alpha Beta Gamma treasurer, said she always participates in the functions.

“Anybody who wants to participate in the business club should get in touch,” Bulkom said.
