A pedestrian crossing the street adjacent to College Boulevard by the Ninth Avenue entrance to the main campus of Pensacola State College was hit by a vehicle today at approximately 12:00 p.m., and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
His injuries included a “nasty cut on his arm and maybe a broken ankle,” said Public Safety Director Henry Shirah, and he “hit his head on the windshield.”
A puddle of blood was on the curb where the victim received first aid, approximately 10 feet from the stopped vehicle.
There were no skid-marks on the pavement, indicating to Shirah that the driver of the Chrysler was going “less than 10” miles per hour. The speed limit there is 10 miles per hour.
The man hit by the car, whose name, along with the driver’s, hasn’t yet been released, was not in a crosswalk, nor was there one nearby.
When asked if he would advise students to use the crosswalks, Shirah said, “Absolutely. That’s what they’re there for.”
At this time, no citations have been issued.
Shirah said there aren’t normally accident’s with injuries like this on campus.
