Chanda Rigby has been the Head Coach for Pensacola State Woman’s Basketball for 7 years. She has two State Championships and two third place National Championships under her belt while head coach for PSC. Rigby has just taken the position of head coach of Woman’s basketball for Troy University.
“It’s a great opportunity for me just like it was an incredible opportunity for me at PSC,” Rigby said.
Pensacola State has given several of Rigby’s players opportunities to move on to other Division 1 universities from PSC.
“I guess I got a turn at it (to move on to a University),” Rigby said.
There were many candidates looking to take on the position as head coach at Troy.
“I’m honored to be chosen out of that pool of candidates,” Rigby said. “It’s a great job.”
It’s a huge jump going in from being a Junior College head coach to a Division 1 head coach.
” Not many people get the opportunity to jump from head coach to head coach,” Rigby said.
The decision to go to Troy was an emotional yet great decision and oppportunity for Chanda.
“They seemed to think that I was a good fit for them,” Rigby said.
Chanda has the ability and experience to turn programs around and make winning teams.
“It’s a good fit and a challenge for me,” Rigby said.
Coach Rigby’s first thing on her agenda is to change the perception and let people know that this will be the predominant program in the state of Alabama. Her goal for next year is to have a winning season.
“My goal is to make Troy University the place people think of when they think of Alabama College Woman’s Basketball.”
She leaves behind a message to her players and future players of Pensacola State Lady Pirates, “You really can get there from here.”
