One simple way to be more energy efficient while saving money is to switch to a compact fluorescent light bulb somewhere in your house or business on Oct. 5 Florida’s official Change a Light Day, which kicks off the state Energy Efficiency Week. Although compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) initially cost more than incandescent light bulbs, they consume less energy and last longer almost 10 times a long. One 20-watt CFL (the equivalent of a 75-watt incandescent) at 1,000 hours of operation per year will cost you $1.70 compared to about $6.38 for the incandescent bulb. Over the life of the CFL, the electricity savings is $46.80.
