Pampering yourself is expensive! Usually, a manicure costs about $15-$20. The average massage starts at around $60. If you want a facial, be prepared to spend about $75. With times as difficult as these it’s hard to find enough money or time to squeeze in some pampering.
Luckily, there’s the PJC Cosmetology Department. Located in building 12, the cosmetology department offers a variety of services at excellent prices. Need a pick-me-up? Read on.
First there is hair care. The hair salon offers a variety of services. Hair shaping ($5), color touch-ups ($15), deep conditioning ($4), and relaxers ($10) are just a few things on the list.
Then there is nail care. Manicures ($5), pedicures ($20- complete with a massage), and acrylic nails ($10 for a new set) are some of the services that you will find.
The perks don’t just stop at hair and nails. The department also does facials ($10) and massages ($25 for an hour). In the future, the cosmetology dept will do micro-derm abrasion.
“We have the equipment but they just haven’t started doing it yet,” Gail True, front desk manager, said.
Use of the salon is not limited to PJC students, so the place can become busy.
“Anyone can come,” True said. “We are glad to have any clients.”
Call ahead and schedule an appointment. The day services do not take walk-ins, but the barbering services at night do from 5 – 7:45pm.
PJC student Haley Bengtson, who recently had her nails done at the cosmetology department, said, “I usually spend about $50-$100 a month (on hair and nails), depending on what I get. I’d probably save half of that if I came here every time. The atmosphere is actually really friendly. The people who work in there are nice, they are actually nicer than the people who work in the nail shops. The conversation was steady. My overall experience was really good. I’m really happy with the service. I got everything I wanted done for a flat rate. I was really happy.”
