Death To Civil Liberty: The National Defense Authorization Act Passes

In a stunning display of disregard for civil liberties the United States House of Representatives have passed H.R. 1540, also known as the National Defense Authorization Act. The bill passed last night at a stunning 283 – 136, and the worst part is President barrack Obama has retracted his promise to Veto the bill.

The bill at first appears to be in favor of more spending for our military forces, but in the small text lies an eerie caveat. The United States now reserves the right to hold American Citizens indefinitely, without trial, if they are deemed a threat to national security. This suspension of Habeas Corpus is sickening. More disturbing is the Department of Defense listing protest as “a low level terrorist act”. This is disheartening, as the Occupy movement is listed in the same category as Al-Qaeda.  Peaceful protesters are considered equal to violent extremists.

Our own Congressman Jeff Miller voted in favor of this bill, which was passed on the 220th anniversary of the Bill of Rights. With this bill in effect and the Stop Online Piracy Act being voted on today, America is essentially becoming a totalitarian state.
