If you are a person who is looking for a fast paced career, a never ending wealth of knowledge and the opportunity to work with other medical workers as well as patients, then the healthcare field is the one for you. On top of the list of attractive qualities, the healthcare field is in a high demand and extremely diverse.
Pensacola State College is inviting students to the Medical Career Expo on Feb. 28 from 5-7 pm at the Warrington Campus. The program has been engaging students for over 25 years. The Expo will be an opportunity for students who may have an interest in the medical field, to speak with members of the faculty and students who are currently enrolled in the medical program. The Expo will be the best time for students to compare the programs offered by PSC, with one on one advice, from real people who have the experience that the medical field provides.
“I participate because I think students need to be informed. The Expo is an exciting way to do that. Anyone planning to enter a two year program will want to be there,” Monica Duff, a test technician in Testing and Assessment, said. “We have Department heads and students that are currently enrolled in the different programs on hand to answer questions one-on-one about any program that is offered.”
“The Health Information Technology and Coding Programs participate in the Medical Career Expo because of the recruitment opportunities and offering the community more exposure to the programs,” Donna Shumway, approved ICD-10 trainer, said. “The Medical Career Expo provides a great opportunity to inform interested students in the medical professions an avenue to talk to enrolled students, program director, and graduates regarding questions they may have on program entrance requirements and courses. This is a good way to showcase the Health Information Technology programs.”
For students undecided as to whether they want to work directly with patients or not, there will be jobs such as: coder-billed, health information management and health unit coordinator. While attending the expo, students are given the opportunity to speak with people about testing, veterans’ assistance, TRIO program, financial aid, and much more. Student Affairs representative Genia Taylor will be attending the Expo, providing a chance for students to check the status of their application or complete their application.
“The Medical Career Expo is a wonderful opportunity for a student that is undecided about a career field,” Judy Floyd, director of Student Services, said. “Having all of the health programs in one place with the program coordinator and some of their current students explaining their field of study is invaluable to interested students. The Expo is a great place to find the career that is right you!”
