Dr. Al Winfield, director of the PJC Law Enforcement Recruit Academy in the early to mid-1980s, died of cancer on October 18.

“He was one of my closest friends and gave me the encouragement and shared the knowledge that allowed me to become a police chief,” said Nancy Newland.

Winfield left PJC to be Chief of Police in Gulf Breeze and then went to Vacaville, California, his home area.

To get in touch with Winfield’s family, their contact information may be found through Nancy Newland at extension 2500.
