For the third consecutive year, the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society held its 2006 initiations at the Learning Resources Center on PJC’s Pensacola campus.

Prominent KDP alumni figures Betsy Were, professor of education, and Jane Spruill, also of the education department, presided as the 2006 initiates received an official welcome into the KDP society.

Those inducted into KDP included Lois Aaron, Olivia Bailey, Amanda Ballard, Irish Brown, Dana Garrett, Shannon Harty, Brittany Levins, Elizabeth Martin, Kate O’Quinn, Marie Pritzl, Ashley Slade, and Lydia Whitehead. This year also yielded the first male initiate, Kenneth Gaddis, who was also accepted into the honor society.

The theme for this year’s initiations was basically “honoring those who honor education.” Guest speaker Mrs. Jo Spencer, PJC math professor, offered words of personal history and encouragement to the future educators.

The backgrounds, personal interests, family obligations, and hobbies all contribute to the goals of becoming the educators of the next generation.

The education field was described by Mrs. Spencer as not being the typical nine to five job.  Education requires a dedication that our future educators will continue to show as their careers progress.
