Pensacola State College’s Lady Pirates fought Chipola College Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Lou Ross Center, but they could not keep it together long enough to pull off their first conference win. The pirates lost 53-52.
With a 0-6 conference record going into Saturday’s game, the Pirates exposed their exhaustion to losing by performing immaculately.
They came out of the locker room ready to hunt Chipola down and went up 8-2 in the first four minutes of the game.
“We were hungry for a win,” PSC freshman Taron Bright informed, “We were all tired of losing and tired of making our fans watch us lose at home.”
The Pirates fought diligently in the first half of the game even though they had eight turnovers in the first 15 minutes of the game.
However, the Indians were up at the first half 31-28.
The second half was a physical battle between the Pirates and Indians.
The scoreboard remained almost tied throughout the second half, yet the Pirates were down by one point with only eight minutes left in the game.
PSC’s Alexis Horton stole the ball at 2:08 and closed the score gap 52-48 favoring the Indians.
With time coming to an end, PSC’s Bright created opportunities for the Pirates making eight out of nine free-throws.
The Lady Pirates fell to Chipola 53-52 with seconds left in the game.
PSC will compete with rivals Gulf Coast State College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at home.
