The PJC Volleyball Invitational was held this past Friday and Saturday at the L.I.F.E. Center in Milton, where the Lady Pirates went undefeated.
Friday night, PJC played the College of Lake County from Chicago, Ill., and beat them in three straight games: 30-16, 30-18, and 30-24.
“We did very well in the tournament this weekend,” Coach Pete Pena said, “Our setters, Virginia Caldwell and Alison Revell, did exceptionally well for us.ÿ They really put the ball in action and helped out a lot on offense.”
Saturday morning, the team played its next match against Faulkner State University from Bay Minette, Ala. and came out on top.ÿ The scores were 30-14, 30-32, 30-22, and 30-16.ÿ The Lady Pirates then swept over Oakton Community College from Des Plaines, Ill. in the last match of the tournament with game scores of 30-17, 30-24, and 30-25.
Coach Pena recognized and congratulated Freshmen Jodi Carter and Chelsey Adams who were named to the All-Tournament Team this past weekend.
PJC’s next game was Tuesday night where they fought hard to be Panhandle Conference Champs, but the Lady Pirates were defeated by Gulf Coast Community College.
“If we had won that game, we would be Panhandle Conference Champs.ÿ We will have to play our fifth game against Gulf Coast in Panama City and that will decide it all,” said Pena.
So throughout this next week PJC will be working hard in practice in order to prepare for a rematch with the Lady Commodores in Panama City.
