Wednesday, March 21 was a victory win for the Lady Pirates (72-60) playing their first game at 2:00 p.m. in the NJCAA Woman’s National Championship in Salina, KS against Monroe Community College Rochester, NY.
The starting line-up for Pensacola State was 5’9 Sophomore from Natchitoches, La. Brandy Broome, 5’7 Sophomore from Washington, DC Ronika Ransford, 5’9 Sophomore from Pensacola Jasmine Richardson, 5’8 Sophomore from Dale City, Va Kyana Jacobs, and 6’2 Freshman from East St. Louis, Ill TeAndrea Smith.
The starting line-up for Monroe was 5’7 Freshman from Brooklyn, NY Ashley Castle, 5’7 Sophomore from Camden, NJ Ivory James, 5’10 Sophomore from Freehold, NJ Sehmonyeh Allen, 5’10 Sophomore from Syracuse, NY Ayana Bradley, and 6’4 Freshman from Bronx, NY Donisha Watson.
At tip off, the Lady Tribunes took control of the ball and Bradley made the first basket for Monroe. It was a back and forth fight for the lead between PSC and MCC with Monroe coming off top with the lead at 13:24 on the clock (13-12) and holding on until halftime (29-27).

The first half scores for the Lady Pirates were Smith with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block, Hamilton with 5 points, Ransford with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist, Richardson with 4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, Broome with 2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal, and Jacobs with 2 points and 5 rebounds.
Scores for the Lady Tribunes in the first half were James with 12 points and 3 steals, Castle with 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal, Watson with 3 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal, Bradley with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal, Allen with 2 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and and 2 steals, and Daniels with 2 points, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Going into the second half, the Lady Pirates remained behind but came up to tie the game (34-34) with 17:19 on the clock and took the lead with 15:31 on the clock with a steal from Broome and an assist to Jacobs to score. From there Pensacola State took control of the game and took the win from Monroe.
The final stats for Pensacola State Lady Pirates were Richardson with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals, Smith with 12 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 blocks and 1 steal, Jacobs with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals, Ransford with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal, Broome with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, Hamilton with 7 points and 1 steal, Alex with 4 points, Ellison with 3 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal, and Mitchell with 2 blocks.

The Lady Pirates who are seed #4 will play Georgia Perimeter College from Decatur, Ga who is seed #12 tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. to determine who they will play Friday between Trinity Valley Community College,Tx who is seed #1 or Shelton State Community College, Ala. who is seed #9.
