The start of this new fall semester marks the one year anniversary of the newly reformed Literary Roundtable. For those unfamiliar with the club, Literary Roundtable is a literary club dedicated to publishing the written and visual artwork of PJC students and now for the first time is accepting original music submissions.
The club plans to release the 2008 edition of “ISSUE” Noon Sept. 4 at the pavilion outside of building 5, with additional tables set up in the Allen Liberal Arts Building (Building 4) and the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for the Visual Arts (Building 15).
“With the amount of time we had, we really made something special. I think the readers will enjoy it a lot,” said Editor-in-Chief Ben Gilliland.
After the unfortunate loss of its faculty advisor Caroline Dreyer due to cancer, Literary Roundtable had dwindled down to only a dedicated few members. Last fall the literary club recruited some fresh faces and, under the supervision of veteran member, Carla Mock, began work on a low budget zine simply titled “Pieace.” The following spring, after working out all of the kinks and releasing “Pieace”, the group had built up the confidence to start work on the club’s award winning literary magazine “ISSUE.”
The 2008 “ISSUE” is the third dissemination of the club’s primary annual publication, but it is the first to be released in two years due to the hardships and loss the club faced in 2007. This highly anticipated and long awaited release has many of the students and faculty eager to see what this new take on “ISSUE” has to offer. The club was fortunate enough to consult with the magazine’s original editor-in-chief, Marzia Accardo. With Accardo’s guidance and the hard work of the newly reformed Literary Roundtable, the 2008 “ISSUE” is sure to live up to the reputation of its predecessors.
Literary Roundtable will meet at 12:30 p.m. every Thursday in room 416 of the Allen Liberal Arts Building. The club is open to all students and no publication experience is necessary.
