The PJC men’s and women’s basketball teams both had a chance to pull shocking upsets over Chipola’s men’s and women’s team, but lost the game at the end.

In the women’s game, PJC (now 4-7 in the conference)lost 70-66. PJC trailed at halftime 39-32 but made a huge surge in the second half and had a seven point lead with just five minutes remaining. However, PJC couldn’t make the big plays when they needed to and Chipola made a late comeback to win.

“They just played better than us down the stretch,” said PJC head coach Chanda Rigby.

Victoria Hunt led PJC with 21 points followed by Angelese Hunter with 18 points.

The PJC men’s team lost 73-30 to the No. 3 ranked Chipola men’s team. PJC (0-8 in the conference) was up by 13 points with eight minutes left before Chipola switched to a press defense that PJC couldn’t adjust to. Many of PJC’s 19 turnovers came within the last five minutes and Chipola worked their way back into the game. Chipola evened the score 70-70 with 35 seconds left. PJC missed their opportunity to win the game and with three seconds left Chipola converted on a 3-point play.

Lasha Parghalava led PJC with 25 points and Jerome Burgos had 16 points, including five 3-pointers.

The men’s and women’s teams will play Okaloosa Walton at home on Feb 13.
