Pensacola State College’s Jessica Merritt is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Merritt, a sophomore from Talladega, Ala., averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals
in two Panhandle Conference games. At No. 3 Chipola on January 11, Merritt’s double-double – 23 points
and 10 rebounds – helped the top-ranked Lady Pirates to a 73-66 win. Four days later, she scored 27
points on 11-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds, six assists and six steals, leading Pensacola State
to a 92-84 come-from-behind victory over No. 4 Gulf Coast. For the week, Merritt shot 65.6 percent (21-
of-32) from the floor and 70.0 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line.
