After years of planning and recent construction, Bill Hamilton, the director of athletics, is in the process of getting the new softball field finished.
Phase one of the constructions is completed and the softball field is now being used for practicing. The ultimate goal is getting a score board to start hosting home games.
Coach of the softball team, Brenda Pena, has eagerly been waiting for the new field.
“This is a great advancement to the school and even more for the softball team,” Pena said. “For the past 12 years, the softball team would ride a bus to the Milton campus for practice every day.”
Datonya Dilworth, the Catcher Sofia Pimentel and second baseman for the team, is going to be just one of the people that will be able to stay in Pensacola to practice, instead of going to Milton.
“Being able to keep the softball games in Pensacola will cause the school to save money,” Pena said.
Right now the contract for the second phase, which will consist of a press-box, permanent dugouts, and stands, is up for bidding by construction companies.
Mike Haze of Dag Architecture is in charge of management with the general contractors. This project also includes a new track for the public and a new soccer field.
