It was an off night for the Pirates Sat., Feb. 18 against Northwest Florida State losing by 37 with a 69-32 game. The Pirates started off in the lead with the first basket made by Tyree Smith for a three. With 16:19 on the clock, the Raiders took over scoring back to back giving them a 26 point lead by half-time leaving the score 39-13.
The starting line-up for the Pirates was #5 Antoine “Fresh” Myers, #10 Maurice Whitely, #12 Jeff Mullahey, #15 David Alexander, #32 Darren Goodson, and #33 Tyree Smith. For the Raiders, the starting line-up were #1 Neiko Hunter, #3 Chris Jones, #12 Chad Donley, #23 Trency Jackson, and #42 Rod Rucker.
In the first half, Tyree Smith scored 5 points and Don Rigters and David Alexander both had 4 points. For the Raiders, Chris Jones had 11 points, and Teraes Clemmon had 8 points.
During half-time, the Student Government Association and The Corsair put on a Mardi Gras themed festival throwing out beads, moon pies, candy, and novelties to the crowd.
In the second half, the Raiders maintained the lead leaving the Pirates without an opportunity to catch up. The top scorer for the Pirates was Kent Langham with 7 points. The top scorers for the Raiders were Teraes Clemmon with 15 points, Chris Jones with 14 points and Demetrius Moore with 13 points.
This leaves an overall record of 22-6 and 6-4 in conference for the Pirates and an overall 25-1 and 10-1 in conference for Northwest Florida State.
The next game for the Pirates will be their last home game and their Sophomore Night on Wednesday, Feb. 22 following the Lady Pirates game that starts at 5:30 p.m.
