Pensacola State College begins its 2013-2014 Lyceum Series on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium with a concert featuring Pensacola native and versatile, classical pianist Mark Markham.

The concert is a tribute by Markham to the late Daisy Jackson, a PSC alumna who was a soprano for the U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants.

Since 1995, Markham has accompanied opera singer Jessye Norman in more than 150 performances spanning 22 countries at venues that include Carnegie Hall.

Markham started his solo piano career in 1980 with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra.  Around the same time, he was invited to coach opera at the Oglebay Institute.

Markham received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the Peabody Conservatory, where he also served as a professor and vocal coach for 10 years.

PSC students with a valid student ID receive a free ticket, which must be picked up from the Lyceum Box Office.

General admission tickets are $11, seniors 60 and older, children and college student tickets are $9 and PSC faculty tickets are $7.

The Lyceum Box Office, located in room 861 of building 8, has hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to a performance.
