The PJC men’s basketball team took on Gulf Coast CC at the Lou Ross Center on Wednesday earning a victory 78-71 over the undermanned Commodores.

The injury riddled Commodores fielded only six players for the game but were scrappy and hung around with the Pirates.  Phil Wallace lead the Pirate attack with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  Yarrish Hammons added 10 points for the Pirates.

“We thought they were going to play zone defense against us, but they surprised us when the came out playing man defense,” Coach Paul Swanson said.  “The six players they had tonight are good players.”

A scary moment midway through the second half occurred when forward Brad Skipper received a cut just above his left temple.  He went to the bench and did not come back into the game.  No word on his current condition.

The win improves PJC’s conference record to 2-6.  PJC next plays at home on Feb. 15th against Chipola.
