PJC has allowed the Red Cross to temporarily move its headquarters to the Baroco Center for Science and Advanced Technology, providing space in which to operate relief efforts. Volunteers are needed in countless positions, said Red Cross Volunteer Coordinator, Rebekah Williams.

“We would welcome any volunteers, any amount of time they can give us we would love. We can use help all day long. No matter what their ability is, we can find jobs for them,” Williams said.

Countless positions are available for students, or anyone, who chooses to volunteer.

“We have a need for drivers. We need people to man the phones of our 800 call center. We need case workers,” she said.

The Red Cross will provide free training. Once the family service training is completed, volunteers are connected with families who have called the Red Cross.

The organization also needs people who can assist with data entry and clerical work in the financial department, Williams said.

The Red Cross also needs volunteers who can assist with completing disaster assistance intake forms for evacuees and distributing water and snacks to those waiting in line outside in the hot sun. ÿ Report to the Red Cross office, 1741 N. Palafox St. between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
